Biblical Exegesis — New Testament
Acts of the Apostles
The second volume of the Lukan work — programmatic account of the Christian expansion from Jerusalem to Rome (ca. 30–62), composed around 80–90 by Luke the Evangelist.
General Introduction
The Book of Acts constitutes the only properly « historical » book of the New Testament after the Gospels. It forms the second part of a diptych work (Luke + Acts), conceived by a single author and addressed to the same recipient : « most excellent Theophilus » (Lk 1:3 ; Acts 1:1).
Geographic Structure
The book is organized according to the program announced in Acts 1:8 : « You will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, throughout Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. » Three parts : I. Jerusalem (ch. 1–7), II. Judea and Samaria (ch. 8–12), III. Empire to Rome (ch. 13–28).
